Acne Scars

Severe acne is miserable enough, but for some of us the misery doesn’t end when the acne itself is cleared.

Many people who have had cystic acne, both men and women of all ages, are left with deep, depressed scars which give the skin a crater-like or orange-peel appearance.

The severity of acne scarring depends both on our genes and the severity of the acne – generally, the more severe the acne, the higher the risk of developing acne scars. So waiting to treat acne until it becomes severe can lead to extensive acne scarring. These scars are a result of collagen and epidermal damage and do not go away without treatment.

The good news is that no one has to live with permanent scars and dark spots that can develop as acne clears. Thanks to advances in products and technology, we can now offer our clients many safe and effective treatment options to diminish scars and even fade those stubborn dark spots on the skin.

How is it treated?

We offer a wide range of procedures for acne scarring including Chemical Peels, Obagi, Laser Resurfacing, Subcision and Medical Dermal Roller.

The first step is a thorough consultation by one of our experienced practitioners, who will devise a bespoke treatment plan specifically for your skin.

Erbium Yag Laser resurfacing is one of the most successful treatments for acne scars today, but often a combination of treatments is the best solution.

What can I expect from the treatment?

After treatment, patients are left with even, smooth, healthy looking skin. The appearance of scars and excessive skin pigmentation is dramatically improved.

The Laser Resurfacing can also reduce pore size and smooth out rough skin. It is one of the most successful scar treatments available today and when combined with the skill of our practitioners, the results achieved are amazing.

What procedure is the most popular?

CO2 Laser skin resurfacing is increasingly becoming one of today’s most popular aesthetic treatments.  The excitement within the industry caused by this is due to the incredible results and long term effects on a wide range of dermatological and cosmetic skin conditions including severe acne scarring that was hitherto, virtually impossible to improve.

All changes in your skin obtained with the DEKA SmartXide2 CO2 Laser & RF System are permanent but to make sure you get the maximum advantage we always advise clients to use prescribed products at home pre-treatment to improve their skin tone and obtain optimal results from the procedure.

A course of treatment is sometimes necessary depending on the condition or the skin and particularly if an extended period of “downtime” is to be avoided. Nevertheless, the benefits can be seen within a few days and side effects will gradually diminish with the natural healing process.

Resurfacing is quite painful and you must be prepared for this; we will manage this for you with topical anaesthesia, refrigerated air and the application of a cooling balm post treatment.

Compared to traditional treatments with older CO2 lasers, DEKA SmartXide2 CO2 Laser & RF System with DOT therapy now enables a significant reduction of pain during and after treatment.  A further precaution is to use a high factor sunscreen on a daily basis and to keep the area regularly hydrated with a suitable moisturiser post treatment.

Immediately following the procedure the skin will feel tight, appear very pink and feel hot. You will have a stinging sensation which will last for about an hour and we recommend that you remain in our recovery facility where we will continue to apply cooling air and moisturise the skin to disperse the pain as soon as possible.

The erythema will generally only last for three to five days depending on the depth of your procedure. The majority of clients observe greatly improved skin tone after the first treatment.  You will also notice that pigmentation and scarring may have faded or completely disappeared.

The laser also stimulates the production of collagen and you will notice a progressive improvement of your skin for at least six months post treatment. A regular check-up and a few hydration facials are advised so we can monitor your progress and reduce downtime as much as possible.
