Botox® Migraine and Headaches
You’ll be familiar with the anti-ageing properties of Botox®, but it has another valuable use as a preventive treatment for chronic migraine.
While it can’t treat an acute migraine attack, Botox® for Migraines has been shown to help sufferers by significantly increasing the number of migraine-free days that they experience in a typical month, helping them to live a more normal life.
Botox® Migraine - How it works
Originally designed to treat muscle spasms, it was soon discovered that Botox® has massively beneficial affects on wrinkles and lines.
It works by effectively “freezing” and relaxing the muscle where most tension is present. At this stage, it is unclear exactly why Botox® helps migraines sufferers – but it does!
What can I expect?
During this procedure, several tiny pinprick injections are made in muscles of the forehead and neck.
How many Botox® treatments will I need?
Usually, patients begin to experience migraine relief from two to three weeks after their first Botox® injections. The treatment typically needs to be repeated every 12 weeks. Thereafter, the effect may increase and patients can experience three to four months of relief at a time before further treatment is needed.
