Sculptra® – injectable Poly-L-Lactic Acid

How it works
Sculptra® is a biocompatible and biodegradable injectable material known as poly-L-lactic acid and is derived from fruit acids, and naturally stimulates the build-up of the body’s own collagen. Sculptra® is formulated as micro particles of poly-L-lactic which are mixed in sterile water and then injected into the skin.

These micro particles are deposited under the skin, and as the body slowly breaks them down, they begin to stimulate collagen production. Sculptra® works by increasing the volume of depressed areas over short time.

What can I expect?
The most common side effects with the use of Sculptra® include bleeding, tenderness, bruising and localised swelling. Here at the clinic we use a variety of methods to help reduce swelling such as Emla numbing cream, ice packs and massage techniques.

How many treatments will I need?
Results vary from patient to patient, and will depend on the amount of fat loss in the facial skin, but you should see a gradual, noticeable difference with just two or three treatment sessions, at six to eight week intervals.

As the production of collagen is gradual, results will become more noticeable with each treatment session. You may need between three to six treatments to be satisfied with the results. This is a recommendation, results cannot be guaranteed with Sculptra®, we advise a thorough consultation before any procedure is carried out.
