Thread Veins
While we don’t know what causes them, we do know that thread veins can really knock your confidence. It’s thought that smoking, hormonal changes, alcohol, changes in temperature and prolonged standing could cause this condition, or it could simply be inherited.
Thread veins are most commonly visible on the face, legs, nose, chest and arms, and in some people they expand and show through the skin, giving a red or purplish appearance. The veins vary in size, colour and type ranging from fine red ones to larger purple or deeper blue veins.
Despite being very common – half of 50-year-old women have them, and so do about 20% for 20 year old women – these unsightly veins are medically insignificant.
Advanced Laser Thread Vein Removal
Here at the Royal Tunbridge Wells Skin & Laser Clinic we can use Laser Nd Yag and IPL to treat a broad range of thread veins on the face, body and legs, from tiny spider veins to deep blue reticular veins up to 4mm in size quickly, safely, and effectively with minimal downtime.
There is no need for incision and it leaves no scarring.
How does laser Thread Vein removal work?
Laser systems deliver pulses of light energy that cause the blood within the vein to coagulate. The light energy is absorbed by the blood; changed to heat, and then the vein is destroyed.
It will then later be reabsorbed by the body. Blood flow will then be redirected to veins deeper below your skin's surface, where it should be.
What can I expect?
When the light is emitted, you will feel a sharp sensation similar to a hot pinprick. Some of our clients liken it to a rubber band being snapped at your skin. It might be slightly uncomfortable but it shouldn’t feel painful - most patients find it quite tolerable.
During the procedure, there will be a feeling of heat and the treated skin will be redder for a short while afterwards, although cooling packs and gels will calm this and any redness should disappear within a few hours – usually within one hour.
After treatment, protect your skin by wearing an SPF 30 for a minimum of one month.
How many treatments will I need?
The veins will gradually disperse after each treatment, over a two to four week period. Often, patients find that one or two treatments are sufficient to leave you with smooth and blemish free skin. However, several treatments may be necessary dependent upon the number, colour, and size of the vessels being treated.
Unfortunately, some people have a tendency to produce these unwanted veins and may continue to do so even after successful treatment.
In most cases the same veins will not reoccur, but new veins can appear at other sites over time and require further treatment.
